3 Happening Neighborhoods of Athens

For travelers out to explore, walks are a must everyday. Because it’s the best way to see a new city, town or even a village. Just like my lovely long walk through the paddy and potato fields recently to see the Damodar River sunset. It was during my 2 days visit to a rural Bengal farmhouse which was such a wonderful experience full of surprises. We love walking during our travels and again got this lovely opportunity when holidaying in Greece couple of months back. The 3 happening neighborhoods of Athens were all almost next to our hotel on Vissis Street and all connected. And how we enjoyed the day. Come experience it all with us. Let’s take the walk.

Best location for your stay in Athens

The area around Monastiraki metro station in central Athens is the best location to book your accommodation. That’s because most landmarks and exciting places to hang out are in close proximity. After a lot of research we decided on Blend Hotel a lovely 4* property located on Vissis 2. And it was just a five minute walk from Monastiraki metro station.

Happening neighborhoods of Athens

Plaka

Just behind the hills of Acropolis and its ancient temples lies this hillside area of Plaka with the feel of a village. Being a part of old Athens you have narrow streets here lined up with tiny shops selling local items. We found a great collection of fashion jewelry, clothes, ceramic products and home decoration items at reasonable prices. And then the sidewalks are full of cafes and Greek tavernas with a wide variety of cuisine to choose from.

Moreover you can spend time at some amazing museums, watch an ancient Greek theater performance in the evening, marvel at archaeological landmarks and also enjoy some street music on the go. Come feel the place.

Monastiraki Square

One of the liveliest place in Athens, Monastiraki Square is where the action is. Whether you just want to hang around, board the hop-on-hop-off buses, eat and sip a bit at the restaurants and tavernas, do some shopping or walk over to the must-visit archaeological sites, it’s the perfect place to head to. Have a look.

Kosmima Greek Jewellery of Art

For the best handcrafted jewelry in Athens, don’t think twice before heading to Kosmima located on 51, Adrianou Str., Monastiraki Square, 10555 Athens for an exclusive range to choose from. Be it 14k Gold or Sterling Silver Plated Bronze and Swarovski Crystals. You will also find an amazing range of sun-kissed fashion jewelry made from the finest quality materials.

Aiolou Street

If you are a foodie or one who just eats to survive, either way you should be heading to this colorful street in Central Athens. The options are unlimited and the best way to enjoy is to do a bit of cafe and restaurant hopping on the nights you are in Athens. We started with this one below bang opposite our Blend Hotel on Vissis street on our first night and then tried out a few other joints including PAX famous for their burgers.
