How to best enjoy Berlin in one day

Are you heading to Berlin sometime soon? Be it on work or pleasure and maybe you just have couple of days only to spend in the German capital. Well not a problem as we too were in the same boat recently. Just two days we were left with after a cancelled flight from Athens, but we made the best out of them. So here is how to best enjoy Berlin in one day including all sightseeing.

This plan would be for your second day assuming you have already spent your first day afternoon post check-in to your hotel enjoying the neighborhood, doing some shopping, eating, sipping, watching your kids enjoy and listening to some live or DJ music in the nearest square.

For us it was Wittenbergplatz square which was next door to our hotel in western part of Berlin. And we wrapped up our evening there watching the kids having a great time first and then dancing away to some jive DJ music before we walked back for our early dinner at this restaurant next to our hotel.

How did we commute?

While you could make use of the vast public transport network including trams, underground, buses and trains if you purchase the 24 hr or 48 hr tickets, we preferred the hop-on-hop-off bus as reviews mentioned good frequency of buses. Plus the KaDeWe stop was just across the street from our hotel and it’s also a great way to get a feel of the city.

Our Day Out

First stop Berlin Wall

Must Read: Visiting the Amazing Berlin Wall

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie is now a tourist attraction after the reunification of Germany. It was the most prominent Berlin Wall crossing point between East & West Berlin.

Stop by at Charlie’s Beach

Charlie’s Beach is a nice cool hangout to spend a while if you have the time. Else you can just relax over a drink and some snacks before moving on.

Head to Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz is an impressive square where you can stop for an hour or so. Click a few memories with Neptunbrunnen (Neptune) Fountain in the background, rest a while amidst the flowers and then walk to some of the most prominent landmarks of Berlin. Come let’s go.

Neptune Fountain

Alexanderplatz Square

Konzerthaus Berlin

Franzosischer Dom Berlin

Gendarmenmarkt

Berliner Fernsehturm Radio & TV tower

Rotes Rathaus

St. Mary’s Church

Old City Hall

World Clock Berlin

Berlin State Opera

Humboldt University

Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

We are back now on our hop-on-hop-off

And time for a spin

Next a boat ride

Berlin has two large rivers – Spree and Havel and a lot of lakes and canals as well. The boat trip that we took covered Spree river and the Landwehr Canal. You can choose from a variety of of options and book your river cruise here on Travelwisesr Holidays.

And then this refreshing walk

One good thing about Berlin is that many landmarks are close to each other and hence the walk so refreshing through the beautiful gardens and well maintained thoroughfares. We are now in Lustgarten, a park near the site of the former Berliner Stadtschloss (Berlin City Palace) and where you have these historical landmarks closeby.

Bellevue Palace

Humboldt Forum

Reichstag Building

Staatliche Museum

And many more..

Neues Museum

Altes Museum

Berlin Cathedral

Our last 3 stops

Brandenburg Gate is the symbol of European unification and peace. It was here that thousands of Berliners assembled to celebrate the the fall of the wall in 1998. The gate was a part of the dividing line between east & west.

Berlin in One Day. What more can you ask for? It was a day of seeing some amazing landmarks and lots of them. German history, architecture, art, churches, museums, beautiful parks and landscapes with heartwarming green and flowers. Also these awesome Instagram spots to take back some timeless memories. And at the end of it all you would still have enough time to chill it out with a drink at a street side cafe before heading for dinner to Sony Center located in Potsdamer Platz which offers amazing choice of street food options and dining restaurants.

Berlin. There is lots that you can do and still be fresh for more. Ready to go?
