Proud BITSian Alumni at Raj Bhavan Kolkata

It was a rainy day but our spirits were high. For the ten of us lucky ones to be invited for a special afternoon at the Governor’s house in continuation of our BITSian Day celebrations. The day celebrated all around the world by BITS, Pilani alumni on the first weekend of August every year. And we were all there before the scheduled time of 12 noon. We the proud BITSian alumni at Raj Bhawan Kolkata to meet yet another BITSian, our honorable Governor Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose.

DR. C. V. Ananda Bose

Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose the Honorable Governor of West Bengal has been a distinguished civil servant and his career graph spans fields like being a college teacher, an officer in the State Bank of India and then an outstanding tenure in the Indian Administrative Service. A prolific writer and columnist, Dr. Bose has over 300 publications to his credit.

Dr. Bose has won more than 100 prizes, including 15 gold medals during his university days. He has initiated more than 50 innovative movements and institutions in diverse fields such as affordable housing, good governance, science & technology, women’s empowerment, promotion of art and culture and labour welfare. He also is a powerhouse of ideas and has been rightly described as the ‘Man of Ideas’ by none other than the current Prime Minister of our country Sri Narendra Modi.

An event that we attended

We were glad to witness a presentation of Lovoj Technologies, an innovative start-up of Ms. Swati Kovind the daughter of our ex-President of India, Sri Ram Nath Kovind. Lovoj is a B2B platform in the textile sector which promises to be a game changer for the sector.

The Event

Address by Dr. Bose

As some of us had heard him before during his address as our Chief Guest during the BITSAA Global Meet in Jaipur in January this year, today too he was at his best. An outstanding orator, a very well read person and with a great sense of humour, Dr. Bose has addressed many prestigious global fora, including the United Nations General Assembly. His speech leaves a lasting impression in the minds of the listener.

Some relaxation, some refreshments

We BITSians together

The most touching moment

During our hour long meeting with our Honorable Governor we discussed many areas where we the BITSian community can collaborate with Raj Bhavan and make a difference. But the one which really touched our heart was the one where we must come forward to make a real difference in the lives of the common man from the lower rung of society.

It’s a cause very close to our Governor’s heart and his thoughts are for those who are affected by Cancer and can’t afford the prohibitive expenses. And we felt so pained when he mentioned that he himself has lost his daughter to this dreaded disease. Let us all in BITSAA ideate and come forward with a definitive plan to take this cause forward. WE can make a real difference and the satisfaction would be immense. Food for thought for our new leadership team at BITSAA.

Some memorable moments

And his Gifts for us – His books

And this was for me

For each of us it was a day to remember all our life. Being with Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, a man of action and a people’s Governor. Someone who has made the Raj Bhavan Kolkata a ‘Jana Raj Bhavan’ and now accessible to the common man. Hope to be back again sometime to meet him and learn more about his journeys in life.

If you loved this journey to Raj Bhavan Kolkata, PIN it and forward for friends!
