How good is the Santorini Volcano trip

While holidaying what we find one of the most exciting things to do are the day trips. And when there is water all around us, we don’t need anything more. But when in Santorini, you have much more including the most exciting hike to the still active Santorini Volcano. So how good is the Santorini Volcano trip. Come find out for yourself.

A bit of history

The origin of the Nea Kameni volcano dates back to the 1570-1573 period when it first exploded. In the subsequent centuries the active volcano kept erupting from time to time. The last major eruption has been in the year 1950 and the volcano is still active with smokes that can be seen as you explore.

Why book this day trip?

This day trip was on top of our mind especially after having taken the hike to the Mount Vesuvius volcano during our earlier holidays in Italy. That day trip from Sorrento, first to the ruins of Pompeii followed by Mount Vesuvius still remains an unforgettable experience for us. Moreover the Santorini volcano has the largest crater in the world. It’s at a height of 300 m and with a diameter of 11 km. Therefore it’s an experience not to be missed when in Santorini.

How to book the trip?

We booked our trip on our very own holiday booking website Travelwisesr Holidays. You too could do the same through the Activity option for a hassle-free experience at a great price. This 8 hrs day trip also includes two other destinations namely the Hot Springs for a swim experience followed by the island of Thirassia for a relaxed few hours over lunch at your own expense. You would find hundreds of other day trip options as well and do check them out while planning.

The pick-up for the tour is complimentary from designated spots in Fira, Oia & Kamari. Our pick-up point was just outside our Hotel Matina in Kamari. The bus arrived in time, the journey smooth and soon we arrived at the boarding port in Fira with these lovely view from top.

And set off

For this beautiful journey on Agean

As we approach the Volcano

Our hike up

This hike looked a little more tougher than the one in Vesuvius which had a nice laid out path to go up. This one was more rocky but a good challenge to take to experience something extraordinarily beautiful. We though found it quite doable and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The First Level

The beautiful views of Santorini

As we approach the last leg

And we are on top

Time for a briefing & history

As we enjoy these breathtaking views

From the crater

Some precious moments

Then the journey down

As we boarded back on to our boat, this question had cropped up in my mind that afternoon. How good was the Santorini Volcano trip? If you ask me it was just superb. So refreshing a journey with a glimpse of the history of Santorini, also known as Thira. As you are up there on the crater you get a real feel of the missing island part from the original map of Thira after the devastating volcano hit town.

After the Santorini Volcano trip we were next headed to the Hot Springs and then on to the island of Thirassia to relax a while. And next some wonderful views of the cliffs of Faro, Oia and few important landmarks from our boat on our journey back.

If you loved the Santorini Volcano tour, PIN it for planning & forward to friends!
