Relationships are built over time and this one has certainly been one of those very special ones. With Regenta Orkos Kolkata, a 4 star property and our connect goes back seven years. I remember every time I would be heading there early morning to facilitate leadership programs for managers from the top private sector bank in India, it would be a strange feeling of happiness even before reaching there. Of course the pleasure of being with learners has always excited me but in this case it has always been the comfort factor of a very friendly hotel. With happy smiling staff ready to help, good infrastructure and awesome food with a lavish buffet spread as always.
Lunch certainly was a great motivation for all the training attendees. Although it did require me to line up some activities immediately after lunch to prevent them from dozing away. But the ambiance itself motivated me as well to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of my in-laws here in one of their huge banquets couple of years back. Today though there was a very different and exciting reason for heading there. It was an invitation to go back home for a Staycation at Regenta Orkos Kolkata and to enjoy a very special event.
The Reception
It’s always so nice to see familiar faces when you are going back to a hotel after a while. And those sweet smiles welcoming you. The check-in was smooth and the first feel of my room brought a smile as I pulled the curtains off the huge windows of my drawing room. There in front was my city of joy Kolkata with the hotel located in a prime South Kolkata neighborhood with lots of greenery all around. And for shopaholics, the Acropolis Mall just round the corner.
Pawsome Brunch
It was a lovely winter sunny afternoon last Sunday as the music brought the venue to life. The wonderful arrangements all done and the volunteers almost all of them with a smiling face were ready for the action. The balloons added an element of color and so did the green of the mat and the lovely plants and trees around.
The Event
The pawsome guests started trickling in one by one accompanied by their parents. Some with their mothers, some fathers, some had both with them and then some had their brother or sister tagged along. And all so well behaved as I started observing them one by one. Barking, jumping, yelling at each other and of course running after the ball. Nothing unusual that was not expected. The action had started but first the introductions.
That’s Tiger Regenta Orkos in-house sweetheart who hardly barks unless he has to. And I have met him many a times before when I have come here on work. But he seemed to have put on a bit of weight in recent years. He walked in with his serious look, had a good look of the arrangements and then satisfied walked out to probably finish off a task and then came in again after a while.

The Orizzante has become quite a favorite with partygoers of Kolkata in the last few years. With their innovative pricing and extended happy hours till 10 PM, the young working crowd has a great option now. Moreover it is open till very late in the night and serves some great food apart from your choicest drinks and cocktails. I went in to check out before the crowds started trickling in and found the place quite happening and jazzy.

I decided to have a late dinner and didn’t want the restaurant guys to be waiting although they were happy to. Therefore ordered one of my favorites right in my room. The very tasty Mutton Biryani. And to round it off those yummy maulpuas with rabri. Wow what a dinner. Have a look.

This world is small and Kolkata even smaller. But our needs are big. And therefore before deciding on a venue for a family event, a hotel for a stay or a restaurant for dining we tend to ask our family and friends for references or reviews.
It was a sheer coincidence that Dipy, my best buddy from college and university days in BITS Pilani was attending an event that same day in Symphony banquet. The Aiburobhat ceremony of a daughter in their family, a pre-wedding Bengali ritual for to be brides in Bengali households. So I casually asked him. How do you find the property and the food? And his response was ‘Damn good man’.
