Our first day in Santorini was full of wonderful surprises. Starting with Hotel Matina which turned out to be even more beautiful a property than the photos we had seen while booking. Then the warmest of welcome and our cute room with a balcony for the next four days. And then of course the charming resort village of Kamari with the refreshing Aegean seafront of Black Beach. Add to it the bars, the restaurants, the seafood, shopping and our lazy walks, it certainly was memorable. The next morning after a lovely sunrise and an awesome breakfast we set out for Fira town, the capital of Santorini.
How to travel in Santorini
The best mode of transport, irrespective of where you are staying in Santorini are the public buses. With good frequency on all routes they are available everywhere. Be it the new port, airport or Fira, Kamari, Oia and Akrotiri the locations where most travelers stay or frequent. Our bus stop in Kamari was just a 5 minutes walk from our hotel and soon we were off to Fira, a distance of 7 kms which took us 10 minutes.

Visiting the Old Port
Visiting the Old Port is a must-do activity while you are in Fira Town. This is where the cruise ships dock and holiday makers come up using the cable car to experience the magical attractions. For the health freaks who would love to take the plunge, there are approximately 580 steps to go down. But most prefer the cable car which costs € 8 each way.
