Ghats of Varanasi from a River Cruise

Varanasi the 3000 year old historical city has magic written all over it. Be it the temples, the River Ganges, the narrow lanes each having their own special charm, the food and the madness in which pilgrims seek peace. Then of course the Ganga Aarti which draws thousands every evening to the Ghats of Banaras, as this city is also lovingly called. Add to that an early morning cruise witnessing the 84 Ghats of Varanasi from River Ganges. It certainly was a wonderful experience for us. Wish to enjoy this trip from the comfort of your home? Then come with us for this memorable journey.

Alaknanda Morning Cruise

Varanasi is a city of boats. And quite a few travelers love to take a boat ride on the Ganges. Be it morning or evening. But there are many who would love to, yet are a bit skeptical when it comes to availing the small boats. Well they don’t have to worry any more after the introduction of cruises in this river city. And your best option is the Alaknanada Cruise. This 1 hour 30 minutes cruise starts from Ravidas Ghat near Lanka and leaves sharp at 7 AM.

The tickets cost Rs 900.00 per person and includes a complimentary tea/coffee, cookies and mineral water before the cruise takes off. And you can learn about the history of Varanasi through an audio-visual presentation while you enjoy your drink.

If you wish to avail this cruise, book at least 15 days in advance since the tickets get sold out very early. Book here on Alaknanda River Cruise website. There is also an evening tour available which gets booked ever earlier. So try and book well in advance.

The Upper Deck

While the lower deck of the cruise ship is air-conditioned, the upper deck is open which provides amazing views of the Ghats, the river and the bank on the opposite side. There is also a small cafe and sitting space for relaxing and having a drink and some small bites while enjoying the views. Most travelers including us spent most of our time on the upper deck.
