Why stay in Peerless Hotel Kolkata?

Having worked in the organization for a few years as a DGM heading sales for north & east regions in their financial services vertical, the brand Peerless has stayed in my heart even after a decade of moving out to pursue my passion. Passion for leadership coaching, writing, traveling and travel blogging. The opportunity came to stay in their hotel property in Kolkata last week just prior to our travel booking platform Travelwisesr Holidays Australian guests were scheduled to arrive and stay here. And it was such a wonderful experience spending a night there. Wish to know why stay in Peerless Hotel Kolkata during your next visit to the city? Then come along on this journey with me.

What’s Peerless?

Peerless and hospitality are synonymous. I still remember that day when I was waiting for my final interview with their director, president and vice-president marketing. It was lunchtime and I suddenly saw a service employee walking towards me with a huge box in hand. When enquired what that was, he mentioned that it was my lunch which had just arrived from Peerless Hotel almost next door. Awesome assortment of dry delicacies and sweets and so much of it that I couldn’t finish it all. Although I hate wasting food.

Then again after my month long orientation after joining was over here in Kolkata and I was waiting to meet our director on my last day before moving out to Delhi to take charge, his secretary approached me. And he asked me what I would like to have amongst a choice of sweet dishes after the meeting. I do remember I was a bit dumbfound initially as I had never had an experience like this before but then recovered and settled for my favorite Rasmalai.

Have you ever come across these heartwarming gestures from any of the different organizations that you may have worked with in your career till now? Probably not.

And it’s the same warmth that you feel at Peerless Hotel as well right from the time you step into the lobby with a ‘Namaskar’ welcoming you in true Indian tradition. Or when you walk into any of their two restaurants or even their brand new bar. After all you are there to not just have a drink or two but to enjoy an evening. That’s Peerless. Where the little things matter and hospitality at its best. Truly peerless.

Aaheli – Bengali Restaurant

Aaheli is the oldest and the first fine dining Bengali restaurant of Kolkata. And still is one of the most popular ones although few other new brands have come up in recent years. Apart from all the authentic Bengali delicacies and buffet on offer you also have live Bengali music to enjoy as you feast. It also has a branch near Southern Avenue in South Kolkata.

And when you are here do try out their vegetarian or variety of non-vegetarian thalis when few of your friends or family are around with you. Else it is impossible to go solo. At least for me. Have a look.

What was my dinner?

As I walked out of the hotel before dinner for a short spin to check out what was selling on the streets and had barely walked a hundred meters to my left, the shining board at a distance made nostalgia take over. Way back in the year 1980 when three of us friends from BITS Pilani were doing our summer training in Bally Jute Mills, Howrah we would frequent this place for our egg-chicken rolls. And one of us for his beef rolls.

Next I knew I was heading there to live my nostalgia. For my chicken biryani, mutton chaap and firni remembering the good old days. And of course my hari mirch. Wish Abe and Mahajan were there as well.
