Independence Day is in our hearts for every Indian here in India and spread all around the globe. And so is music in my heart and for many like me for whom language is never a barrier. Having grown up in a family where music was in our soul, it helped us understand our own emotions, connect with our inner selves and find meaning in our lives. And ghazals with their meaningful expressions have always touched my heart. So it was again a pleasure this year being invited to cover a Ghazal evening on Independence Day as a travel blogger. In my favorite four star property in Kolkata, Regenta Orkos.

The Artist

Arunasish Roy is a Ghazal artist from West Bengal who was born in a musical family. He started learning Hindustani Classical Music under the guidance of his father Sri Basudev Roy at a very tender age. Some of the many awards he has achieved in his musical career include National Scholarship from Ministry of Culture in the field of Ghazal, 2nd in All India Radio Competition (Light Classical), 1st Class 1st in Master of Music from RBU, etc. He is a music director and lyricist as well.
Arunasish has been performing all over India and abroad for many years. And was the only Ghazal artiste from West Bengal to perform in 1st Jagjit Singh Music Festival held in Mumbai. His range of songs include those sung by the famous ghazal singers Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Hariharan and more.
