Giethoorn Old Art Hotel for your stay

It had been one of our dream destinations but we missed it during our last Netherlands trip. Hence this year it was in our top priority list. And therefore the booking for our NS train from Eindhoven to Steenwijk and our Giethoorn hotel were finalized the fastest. As the day arrived there were no disruptions in running of trains reported which made us glad early morning. And a few hours later we were outside Steenwijk Centraal station waiting for our bus to Giethoorn. Our destination, Hotel de Pergola Giethoorn, now renamed Giethoorn Old Art Hotel for a stay of two nights in search of those little pleasures of life which matter the most for the two of us.

How to reach Giethoorn

Unless you are driving your own or hired car, the best way to reach Giethoorn Village is to take a train to Steenwijk station from any city you are traveling from. Be it Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Maastricht, Utrecht or any other. We were staying in Eindhoven then and took a train to Den Haag and a connecting one from there to Steenwijk. The journey was around two hours and we soon there waiting for our bus 70 to Giethoorn while enjoying the chill. In this lovely city of Steenwijk.

The journey took just around 15 minutes after we boarded. The stop Dominee Hylkemaweg. And the sight after we alighted from the bus was so charming being a cloudy day so typical of Netherlands.

The lovely walk through the village

Giethoorn Old Art Hotel

Hotel de Pergola now renamed Giethoorn Old Art Hotel is a fantastic boutique hotel in Giethoorn at a fabulous location. The neighborhood is pleasing with all that you need right there. The parking lot is just opposite the hotel which is a big plus if you are driving there. And then the department store PLUS, the different shopping options and brand stores all next door. But the best part is that the canal, the boats, the restaurants are right in front and from where all the boat rides start.

What’s Around?

What You Can Expect in Old Art Hotel

As you enter the premises there is a self check-in station. Till 12 noon you would find someone around and the housekeeping staff as well. But you wouldn’t need them as check-in is super smooth.

Bur what I loved about Old Art Hotel was the response from their customer care team. They were simply superb with their communication and must thank Julia for her proactive approach and help whenever required. And what we also loved was the beautiful interiors with a touch of class and the lovely rooms to add to that.

Artistic Rooms

The hotel has rooms on the ground and first floors and each with an artistic touch with their door paintings. Come let’s check some of the contemporary art from the famed Dutch painters including my favorites Vincent van Gogh & Rembrandt.

But there is another category of rooms available with an inside sit out area and an open terrace. We had opted for one of those rooms and just loved our stay with the views, the drizzle at times and the breath of fresh air.

And that’s Our Room

The Awesome Location

The hotel is located on the canal right at the start of this beautiful canal village. A village where many homes need a boat to reach. Old Art Hotel and their restaurant Old Blue faces the canal with the boats that you can rent for an one hour’s journey and explore. The hotel also rents out its own boats. Then there are the covered boats with a guide which take you in groups. We opted for the latter because it was drizzling at times.

Dinner at ‘Old Blu’ in Old Art Hotel

We had prebooked our two-course dinner a few days before and when the hotel management came to know that we were the Travelwisesr blogger couple, they offered us a 50% discount on the price.

Must thank Julia once again who was constantly in touch and who also arranged our early check-in and late check-out as special privileges. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice and it’s here that we had our breakfast as well on both mornings. The staff are attentive and responsive and the menu quite interesting as well.

Giethoorn Old Art Hotel, formerly Hotel de Pergola. The perfect destination to settle down in before you start exploring this beautiful Dutch canal village. We will be back soon to share our magical experience of discovering Giethoorn on a boat cruise and our long walks through the village.
