Mykonos to Santorini by Ferry, Greece

We all are used to flying these days as apparently in most cases it saves us time. But when in Europe a train or a bus journey is such a refreshing way to travel if time is not a constraint for us. And when in Greece and you plan to hop from one island to another there is this wonderful option. The ferry. And that certainly is the best way to experience the magical Aegean sea to reach the beautiful islands. Today let’s share with you why you must travel from Mykonos to Santorini by ferry although both cities have airports. Or the other way around. And to the other islands. Mykonos by the way is a very popular cruise port and there is lots that you can do while there.

A beautiful morning

After an early breakfast at Anna Maria Hotel where we had been putting up for three nights, it was time to say goodbye. To the All Women team who welcome you and take care with the best of hospitality on offer. And their smiles were genuine. Here few of them.

One lovely thing about this hotel is that they give you complimentary pick-up and drop to both the airport and the port. As we stood and waited for the car to arrive it was so nice looking back at the wonderful time we had in the city. Roaming around in Mykonos. We reach Mykonos Port

Lost in our thoughts of the previous three days and enjoying the beautiful surrounding around we soon arrived the Mykonos port in just fifteen minutes. Exchanged our Ferryscanner voucher at the Seajet counter for the tickets. And next came the update. Our ferry was delayed by half an hour. And hence there was time for a walk around followed by a coffee.

It was boarding time

We were soon inside

The boarding process is amazingly swift and in no time the hundreds of passengers were on board stacking their luggage before moving up to their seats after a check. The seats are on two levels and then the open deck. Before we had even got to our seats the ferry was on its way to Athinios, approximately 10 kms away from the capital city of Fira in Santorini. With 2 stops in between at Naxos & Ios. Have a look inside as we settle down.

  1. Great post, nice photographs – I hear it’s not so easy go from Santorini to Mykonos by ferry if you only want to do a day return trip.

    1. Thanks Cherryl. Yes a day trip is not really useful as there is much to explore in Santorini and around. You would need at least 3 days. We spent 4 nights there.

  2. People should take ferries more often.. Especially between these islands, done this trip myself and really liked the ‘short’ time on the sea between the islands.
