When me and my friend Aro were planning our trip to Singapore, we thought a day is what we could afford to spend this time here in Sentosa Island Singapore, just to get a feel. So we set out very early today and reached here quite early. The crowds started pouring in after that, being a Sunday.

Local travel in Singapore

If your holiday is for a week or more during your Travel in Singapore, the best way to commute is to purchase an EZ-Link card. The card has an SGD 12 value in it when you buy it, which you can periodically top up with SGD 10 or more when you run low. It works out cheaper than using cash or any other tourist card, assuming you stay in Singapore long enough to make up for the SGD 5 non-refundable charge for the card or plan to visit again later . This card can be used for all MRT trains as well as all buses in Singapore.

How to reach Sentosa Island Singapore

We took the train from Lakeside on East-West line, changed to North-East line in Outram Park to reach Harbour Front MRT station. From the station you just have to follow the signs that lead to the main mall area of Vivo City Mall, go to the third floor (Level 3) which has the ticketing area and the entrance to the Sentosa Express Monorail Station. You could use your EZ-Link card or buy a ticket for SGD 4 per person which would cover your round trip journey and entrance to the island as well as unlimited use of the Sentosa Express and local transportation in the island for the day.

Although we took the mono rail, you also have the option of availing the Singapore Cable Car to reach Sentosa. Take the exit to Harbour Front Center, follow the signs that lead to the Harbour Front Tower II where you have the cable car station. The round trip ticket would cost you SGD 15.

It’s apparently a wonderful journey over the jungle, sand and sea on the new Sentosa Line which will take you to dozens of attractions on Sentosa, also known as the ‘State of fun’. You can choose your stop at the Merlion station, Imbiah Lookout station and Siloso Point station to enjoy the sandy beaches, Madame Tussauds, Sentosa Merlion, Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium and more.

You could even walk to Sentosa using the Broadwalk from Harbour Front station. Currently there is no entry free till December end next year.

We are now in Sentosa Island. Also known as Sentosa, it’s an island located in the Central region of Singapore which was once used as a British military base and a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp. In 1972, the island was renamed Sentosa and was planned as a popular tourist destination. It has now become one of the most sought after Travel attractions of Singapore, that receives more than twenty million visitors per year and includes a 2 km long sheltered beach, Fort Siloso, two golf courses, the Merlion, numerous hotels and the Resorts World Sentosa, which features the Universal Studios Singapore theme park and one of Singapore’s two casinos.

We are at ‘Resorts World Sentosa’ right now and have been just going around the place. It happens to be one of the biggest attraction in the island and where you can spend more than a couple of days experiencing all it has on offer. You have the Universal Studios Singapore, Adventure Cove Waterpark, S.E.A. Aquarium, The Maritime Experiential Museum, Dolphin Island, Festive Walk, Casino, Salon & Spas, hotels – Crockfords Tower, Equarius Hotel, Festive Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, Hotel Michael & Beach Villas, a collection of 22 villas floating on a lagoon. Add to that the numerous Fine Dining and Casual Dining restaurants, it makes it mandatory for any traveler to stay in the island for at least a couple of days to get the real thrill of this awesome place.

You also have The Royal Albatross, a unique luxury tall ship with four masts, 22-sails, more than 200 ropes, three decks and is one comparable with a luxury yacht. It is berthed at the Historical Ships Harbour and she sails twice every weekend evening. Starting from her berth, the dinner cruise takes guests past the beaches of Sentosa to the outskirts of Marina Bay, around the edge of the Southern Islands and back to Sentosa. She is available for private charters as well.

We are at Beach station and headed towards the beaches where we plan to spend some relaxing moments. The weather was nice but a little cloudy as we set exploring.

For some wholesome fun with the family you just have to hop on the beach tram at Beach Station and head down to Palawan Beach. With a suspension bridge linking beach-goers to the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia (and also Asia’s closest point to the Equator), Palawan Beach, Singapore’s happiest family beach, boasts interesting shops and eateries that are a favorite with adults and children alike.

We now move to Siloso Beach which is a clean, sandy beach and is popular with families throughout the day and takes on a partying vibe at night. It is one of the best places in Singapore to relax and take in the beauty of the scenic coastline. Siloso Beach is though not a natural landmark. The sand on the beach was imported from Australia and is kept exceedingly clean. It was man-made to give locals and visitors a nice coastal stretch to relax on. Siloso has more amenities than nearby Palawan Beach.

Siloso Beach is surrounded by many of Sentosa’s top attractions, making it a very convenient recreational destination. iFly Skydiving, Wings of Time audio-visual show, Madame Tussauds wax museum, and Sentosa 4D Adventureland are just some of the things you can do close by. There’s an excellent choice of restaurants to choose from on Siloso Beach and most offer regional cuisines. We now move to Tanjong Beach.

Tanjong Beach is a favorite with guests who treasure tranquility and solitude. It’s a place where you can while away the hours in the sun with your favorite book and a gentle breeze for company. This beautiful stretch of beach gets especially romantic by night with the twinkling lights of nearby ships providing a magical backdrop.
