Sometimes an early morning flight is so refreshing. More so if you are on a holiday and heading to an exciting destination next. And so was it for us that morning as we looked ahead to spending a day in Mykonos before settling down for three more eventful nights there. We had a quick breakfast, bid goodbye to our lovely hotel in Athens and enjoyed the sunrise before boarding the cab to the airport.

What to expect in Mykonos?

Mykonos is known as the ‘Island of the Winds’ because of the strong northern winds that blow through the city. And we experienced plenty of it both during the day and night. Unlike Athens which is a beautiful green city, Mykonos though is very different. As you travel from the airport to the city you would notice the vast shrubby uninhabited areas with clusters of white houses some with a touch of blue or grey.

But that’s only a bit. The real charm of the city lies in the maize of cobbled streets of Mykonos town known as ‘Chora’, the white painted houses with shades of blue, the restaurants, the shopping and the beauty of Aegean sea.

Anna Maria Mykonos Hotel

Many travelers prefer to stay right in the heart of Mykonos and you would find many hotels to choose from. But they are a bit cramped for space. That’s good if one of the reasons for your visiting Mykonos is to party till late. Also if you wish to spend a lot of time at the beaches which are close by or just spending some time staring at the sea late in the night from the old port or new port area.

However as we had none of these above intentions, we preferred to stay in this beautiful property located in Glastros just 2 km away from the main town. A clean, green and spacious hotel that we just loved when we came across the property before booking. With a bus stop outside and a bus to Fabrika the center every 15 minutes, it was strategically located as well. And the journey less than 10 minutes.

Anna Maria Mykonos Hotel is a perfect blend of luxury, style and spacious rooms/suites with a balcony in each of them. The simple architecture and all white buildings of the hotel has a touch of class about it.
This coupled with some very friendly staff and you can look forward to enjoying a great holiday with a bunch of happy people around you. Come let’s feel this awesome property which you can make your home for a few days like we did.

Great breakfast spread

And happy staff

That’s Rowend & Mercedes from Philippines who took care of our delicious breakfast every morning. And Stavroula from Athens who was responsible for the night front desk. Their smiles said a lot about their hospitality. Thanks so much to each one of you. Also thanks to Zoe at the morning front desk and Efi at the pool bar for making our stay so comfortable.

It was lunch time

During our travels, we prefer to eat a light lunch as it helps us to walk around and explore with ease. Without feeling too full. And we found our place right across the street almost next to the Mykonos central bus station. Smart Bakery has an amazing range of baked products to pick up from. And we found it to be the best bakery in town as we went around.

We not only had a great time munching away but picked up enough for our dinner as well since Anna Marie hotel doesn’t have a restaurant. However you can order food from outside and have it in the comfort of the hotel dining space or in your room.

There is much more to Mykonos and we would be back to tell you more. More close encounters with Mykonos town and spending time in Little Venice. Also how many days are enough while planning for Mykonos and the best activities to do while there. Plus a tour around the most happening beaches.
If you loved this first feel of Mykonos, PIN it for later & forward to friends!

Interesting direction! Thanks for the review!
