We are happy to be back with you again after a memorable holiday. However this vacation of ours started off very differently. On every other occasion that we have traveled abroad we took our international flights from Delhi. But this time for a change it was from our own hometown of Kolkata. Although it did save us couple of days of traveling to and back from there, we certainly did miss Delhi. Because we couldn’t do our mall and market hopping like every other year in the shopping capital of India. But when you come visiting the capital city of India, do take out time to stop by at some of the 10 best places to shop in Delhi.

Delhi is home to many exciting tourist destinations, including great places to shop. Here, you’ll find marketplaces that have been around forever and new, sleek shopping malls with the best brands. Whatever type of shopping experience you’re looking for, Delhi has it.

1. Dilli Haat

This large market in Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi is full of stalls covered with thatched roofs like you would find in a small town market. There is an array of handcrafted goods, including puppets, carpets, clothing, jewelry, bags, and shoes. Moreover there is also furniture and plenty of souvenirs to choose from. You’ll hear the sultry exotic sounds of local music and enjoy a taste of the culture of India. There are many authentic Indian restaurants to eat at, too. You’ll pay 100 Rupees (locals pay 30) for entry. It is open every day from 11AM to 10PM.

2. DLF Promenade Mall

This modern shopping mall is large, with simple yet impressive architecture but is not as crowded as other shopping centers! With its food court, restaurants, and the most well-known brands including Marks & Spencer, Fabindia, Meena Bazar, Adidas, Reebok, it’s the perfect place to shop and eat. During the holidays you can enjoy their festive decorations.The mall is on Nelson Mandela Road at Vasant Kunj and is open 11AM to 10PM every day.

3. Select Citywalk Mall

The Select Citywalk Mall is an impressive, large shopping center of over 1.3 million sq. feet. If you’re looking for a cool, air-conditioned space to shop, this is it. The mall’s tasteful outdoor space is professionally landscaped including greenery and water features and an amphitheater used for events. It has many stores, cafés, restaurants, and bars with anything you could want.

There is also great diversity in the venues: they have Chinese, Thai, Italian, Indian, and Lebanese cuisine. They have brand name stores and modern bazaar stores. There are also entertainment venues and celebrations for holidays such as Diwali, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Ganesh Chaturthi. The mall is in the Saket District Centre in New Delhi and is open every day from 10AM to 11PM.

4. Janpath Market

Janpath Market, also known as the Tibetan market because they have many handcrafted items from Tibet, is a great place to shop for home decorations, antiques and hand-crafted goods. You will find paintings, clothing, shoes, jewelry, brassware and other trinkets. The market is full of stalls and sellers calling out to you to buy their wares. Make sure you barter, as that is the custom: they will try to sell things to you at a higher price because you’re a tourist. The market is in Janpath near the Rajiv Chowk Station and is open 10AM to 9PM from Monday to Saturday and 11AM to 8PM on Sunday.

5. Sarojini Nagar Market

Sarojini Market, located in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi, is a fun place to shop for clothing, music, books, and hand-crafted items. If you’re on a budget, this bazaar is the perfect place to find souvenirs as it is full of cheap bulk items that were rejected as exports. The market opens at 11AM and closes at 7PM every day.

6. Chandni Chowk

This old established shopping area in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi consists of alleys and narrow passages filled with many shops selling tasty street food or wares such as silver items, fabric, electronics, used books, antiques, and much more! Inside the market, you’ll find separate shopping areas conveniently divided by the types of items each seller offers. The bustling atmosphere of Chandni Chowk makes this a fun, authentic shopping experience. It is open 11AM to 7PM Monday to Saturday but is closed on Sundays.

7. Buzzaria Dukaan

The name Buzzaria Dukaan comes from the Hindi word “Bajaria” which means village marketplace and the word buzz refers to the sound of the crowds. Don’t be fooled, however: this indoor shopping center is spacious but filled with a large selection of items. They have everything from saris, jewelry and cosmetics to lamps and items for your home. They also sell hand-crafted soaps and items made by deaf people or women in need. The store is located at 253, Westend Marg, Kohinoor Enclave, Saiyedul Ajaib in New Delhi and is open 10AM to 8PM every day.

8. Connaught Place Market

Connaught Place in New Delhi is a busy, modern shopping area with brand-name outlets as well as a range of unique showrooms full of clothes, fabrics, jewelry, books, handcrafted items, and electronics. The large white air-conditioned plaza has plenty of restaurants and cafés to eat at.Palika Bazaar is in the center of Connaught Place and is full of small shops. It is open from 11AM to 10PM every day.

9. Karol Bagh Market

The market in Karol Bagh is one of the oldest and best shopping markets in Delhi. Many come here to buy their bridal and traditional Indian attire, though they also have plenty of Western clothes. They also sell cosmetics, shoes, books, electronics, and much more. Nearby you’ll find many restaurants where you can grab a quick bite. The market is open 10AM to 8PM every day except Monday.

10. M-Block Market

The M Block Market in Greater Kailash I, South Delhi is full of local shops and name-brand stores selling cosmetics, clothing, and food. You can barter with local sellers to buy goods at cheap prices, especially in the morning. There are also some great restaurants. If you happen to go in the morning hours, you can easily bargain over the prices of most of the goods sold here. The market also has some great restaurants and pubs,with tasty food. It is open 10AM to 9PM every day except Tuesdays.
