After two wonderful days relaxing and going around Berlin, it was time to get a good feel of the countryside. So we decided to take the road trip instead of a flight that we would have otherwise taken. FlixBus has been our choice for years when traveling by bus in Europe and so was it this time as well. Moreover we had some unused vouchers of our earlier cancelled journey couple of years back. And hence we landed up paying almost nothing except for the front seats on the top floor. While we loved the seven hour journey, come find out why Berlin to Munich by road is great. With a refreshment break in between and a stop at Nuremberg.

How to reach the FlixBus terminus

The U Wittenbergplatz underground station was just a two minute walk from our hotel and the journey to Kaiserdamm took us around 15 minutes. Then a 5 minute walk and we were at the FlixBus bus station. You could be staying anywhere in the city yet would have a variety of options to choose from. Check the official Berlin Public Transport network for connections on S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Tram, Bus, Night bus or a combination that best suits you.

The journey

We first cross the city of Potsdam

On the border of Berlin lies the city of Potsdam which is famous for the Brandenburg Gate and is not to be confused with the gate of the same name in Berlin. It is also famous for the Sans Souci Palace which was once the summer home of Frederick the Great, former King of Prussia and few other castles as well like Cecilienhof Castle.

And Leipzig next

Leipzig is the most populous city in the German state of Saxony. It was a part of former East Germany and is famous for many monuments and landmarks including the Old Town Hall and the Old Stock Market.

Then our stop for refreshments

We are in Nuremberg

Nuremberg is the second largest city of the German state of Bavaria after Munich. The city was of great significance during the Nazi era. It was also famous for the Nazi party conventions. The Nuremberg Castle is a famous landmark that visitors rush to.

Nuremberg to Ingolstadt
Enjoy the next part of the journey as we head to Ingolstadt on our way to Munich. It was close to fall time and beautiful nature was all ours to experience.
We pass by Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt is the second largest city in Upper Bavaria after Munich and is famous for the Audi Forum and its museum of classic cars. Also, the University of Ingolstadt has made a special name for itself after being featured in Mary Shelley’s world renowned novel Frankenstein. And there are many classic landmarks as well to visit like the New Castle.

We are now in Munich

It was a lovely cool evening and luckily no traces of rain despite the dark clouds. As we passed by the Olympic Stadium arena on our bus it reminded us that this was one of the reasons for our visit to Munich besides others. And soon thereafter we were at the Munich Central Bus Station.

We took the elevator up and then crossed over to the next door S-Bhan station, purchased our single journey tickets from the vending machine in the direction of our hotel and boarded the next train to Munich Hauptbahnhof, the main train station. It was just one stop and took us 5 min to reach.
Munich Hauptbahnhof

We were feeling hungry and thirsty as well. So we picked up some sandwiches, burgers and beer before we took a U-Bahn to Frankfurter Ring station which was just a 10 min walk from our hotel. You also have the option of getting down at Scheidplatz and taking bus 141 to Ingolstadter Strasse stop and walk 5 min to the hotel.
