Our first day in Zürich had been so very relaxing. Spending a lot of time near Lake Zürich, walking around city center and experiencing a bit of Zürich nightlife. And our second day today has turned out to be a perfect day till now. Spending some more time in Bürkliplatz and the lovely experience in Felsenegg hill after taking a cable car ride. Moreover the ferry ride on Lake Zürich with our bus was again a lovely experience. And so very different from a boat ride we had taken on our first day here. We were now heading to Zürich Old Town, Switzerland on a walking tour with Best of Switzerland Tours.

Zürich Old Town, Switzerland – A Walking Tour

The best part of our holiday here has been the weather. Although the sky has changed colors frequently in the last two days, it has only drizzled a bit at times. It was cloudy again but cool and pleasant as we started our walk. Come over to experience the beauty of Zürich.

Fraumünster Church

The Fraumünster Church in Zürich was built on the remains of a former abbey for aristocratic women which was founded in 853 by Louis the German for his daughter Hildegard.

Münsterhof Square
Grossmünster Church

Grossmünster Church
The Grossmünster is a Romanesque-style Protestant Church and one of the four major churches in Zürich. Its congregation forms part of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zürich.

We now walk to Lindenhof Hill

The Lindenhof is moraine hill and a public square in the historic center of Zürich. It is the site of the Roman and Carolingian era Kaiserpfalz around which the city has historically grown. Moreover it was also the scene of numerous historical events. In the 4th century a Roman fort stood on Lindenhof and in the 9th century the grandson of Charlemagne built a regal palace as place of residence on the very same site. It’s such a peaceful place to be in and relax a while.

Breathtaking Views from Lindenhof
This spot provides a spectacular view of the Old Town, Grossmünster Church, City Hall, the Limmat river, the university and more. Check it out for yourself. Just a few of them.

As we walk around

St. Peter is one of the four main churches of Zürich besides Grossmünster, Fraumünster and Predigerkirche. The church clock of St. Peter has the largest tower clock face in Europe, the outer diameter of each of the four church clocks measures 8.64 m, the minute hand 5.73 m, the hour hand 5.07 m and the minute crack of the large pointer measures 0.455 m.

Zürich Old Town, Switzerland
A perfect destination to live a bit of history, religion, culture, education and architecture. And then you have nature. Certainly at its best. The feel and views as you have a good look at River Limmat from Lindenhof is a treat to the eyes. Its an experience you must not miss, even if you happen to be in Zürich for a day. This was our second day and we still had time to roam around a bit more.

Zürich. A perfect start to a Swiss holiday during the summer. It’s a clean city, a green city and a city which has its lake and river for you to live a few days of adventure. And breathtaking views to make you nostalgic for years to come. But as they say, the real beauty of Switzerland is probably beyond Zürich. We’ll be back soon to share few of those experiences.

I walked around the Old town in Zurich. The buildings and the views were breathtakingly beautiful. And I always think that it is best to walk around a town and see how the locals live. I love to do that usually whenever I go to a new place. Your pictures look amazing and it seems like you covered a lot during your walk.
