A Trip to Mussoorie, Uttarakhand

The two days spent in Dehradun was more about rejoicing with schoolmates remembering our good old childhood days rather than exploring the destination. But visits to the most important few landmarks did make it up a bit. Now it was the turn of going up the hills. For a trip to Mussoorie, the Queen of the hills.

The Road to Mussoorie

The closest airport to Mussoorie is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. The airport is well connected through direct or connecting flights to every part of India. The distance is around 60 kms and the travel time if you are availing a cab is approximately two hours during early morning hours. However if you are already in Dehradun enjoying a holiday, you should reach in an hours time as the distance is only around 34 kms. But do take some time out midway for a Chai and some awesome views as you go up the hills.

Where to stay?

Well that’s the question that every traveler would ask themselves while planning out a pleasure holiday. So did I as well. Because to me a comfortable stay away from the crowd with the majestic mountains all around was what I was looking forward to. And my next move as always was to head to Booking.com. For the perfect destination which made my holiday so very special while I was there.

Hotel SunGrace

Many travelers head to Mall Road the happening center of Mussoorie for their stay because most hotels are located there. I though wished to be close yet a little far away from the crowd with a valley facing room.

Hotel SunGrace provided just that. Just a few km away and with a complimentary drop to and pick-up from Mall road till late in the evening. Add to that of course the beautiful property, awesome food, wonderful staff always willing to help and a great location next to the towering mountains. Just the perfect hotel for a great holiday. Have a look.

He now shuttles between being a computer teacher in Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary School, a top boarding school of Mussoorie and being the Chef at his outlet during the evening hours.

What’s so special? No smell of egg if you eat it by hand. No acidity, no bloated feeling or heaviness. And what was so heartening to hear was that on Saturdays & Sundays they serve free omelettes to schoolchildren in uniform. A must try while in Mussoorie.

Mussoorie. My trip started much earlier with awesome childhood connections rebuilt in Dehradun. Two days to be precise. Add to that a new friend who brought so much smile on my serious face. And then this day in solitude with nature, my hotel staff, cab drivers and young new generation entrepreneurs for company. And their love for their land, Uttarakhand. A land I fell in love with years back. There is more to Mussoorie as we travel together.

If you loved this first day in Mussoorie, PIN it for later!

I didn’t realize there were areas that had evergreen trees like Mussoorie — that makes for beautiful views in silhouette against the mountains! That tram ride must be spectacular too. I can see why you wanted a valley facing room!

I would love to ride a cable car to gun point and try the omlette at lovely omlette center. No wonder it remains on top of the favorite hill stations list among the tourists.
