Wax Museum Jaipur. Is it worth it?

During my recent visit to Jaipur, one of the highlights of the trip was my stay in this heritage property, Jai Niwas Garden Hotel. In town to attend the BITSAA Global Meet an university alumnus event, stayed back for a day for sightseeing and nostalgia. After a few important landmarks the driver suggested this Wax Museum Jaipur and I thought WOW never knew. Come let’s head there but first a little about this lovely boutique hotel where I had put up.

Located not too far away from the city center, the hotel lies in the peaceful neighborhood of Civil lines. I found it quite a cool place with huge rooms and each having a name, a balcony and modern amenities. ‘Chitra’ was the name of my room and it reminded me of all the Chitras I have known in my life as I checked in.

It was truly a pleasure being hosted. A happy staff is what makes a hotel wonderful and there were plenty of them at Moustache Nakshatra. Be it Shahrukh at the reception, the manager, the chef, the service guys and the General Manager, Nilashish Sarkar with a bong connection.

Wax Museum Jaipur

The driver stopped the car and said “there we are Sir’ in hindi. I got down, looked at the building in front and for a thirty odd good seconds was in a state of shock. It was a narrow three storey unimpressive house that was home to the museum with a few more surprises in store for the visitor.

I had Madame Tussauds in my thoughts and there I was in front of Khamma Ghani Wax Museum. And the next thought was ‘Should I go in or not?. But then decided to buy the Rs 300/- (USD 4 approx) ticket without the 12-D cinema option and go in. After all it was a quick thinking businessman’s creative venture and it certainly deserved a look although tickets were highly overpriced. The all inclusive price with 12-D cinema was Rs 500/- (USD 7 approx).

The Wax Museum

After I entered I thought of asking this guy next to me to give me an idea of what to expect. And then realized he was a wax figure whom I couldn’t recognize. I thought he probably was the guide. That brought a smile on my face and also the eagerness to explore further. Come let’s check it out.

Wax Museum Jaipur. Is it worth it? Well if you ask me it certainly turned out to be a much better experience than I thought it would be. With some wax figures really good and some others well attempted.

If you have kids they might like the overall experience despite the high price. For adults only visitors, well you have seen it all with me. Instead use the money to feast on some mouthwatering Rajasthan delicacies. The Pyaaz Kachori, Dal Baati Churma, Mawa Kachori, Ghevar, Rabri, Peda, Kalakand and Lassi.

I wouldn’t have expected for a wax museum to be in Jaipur. I certainly didn’t visit it when I was there. I have to agree with you, some of the statues don’t really look like who they are supposed to be. I guess the combined ticket was worth the money, as it combined all the attractions there. I have been in one of those vortexes before and wow, it does induce dizziness. The horror house sounds like a fun experience.

    1. Yeah Joanna overall it was quite an enjoyable experience. Actually the real Wax Museum in Jaipur is in Nahargarh Fort which is 20 km away from Jaipur. That’s supposed to be damn good with 30 wax models.

I’m not super knowledgeable about soccer but the David Beckham statue looks kind of like a strange interpretation of Messi instead? But don’t quote me on it! I agree with you, perhaps kids will enjoy it but it doesn’t seem to be the highest quality wax museum. Thanks for such a great tour!

I’ve only been to the Madame Tussauds wax museum, so it’s interesting to read about a different kind! I’ll be honest, I didn’t recognise many of these figures. But Bruce Lee and Mother Teresa were very good!

  4. I must admit that I find wax museums a bit strange but fascinating too. The Wax Museum looks like an interesting stop on a visit to Jaipur. While many of the statues are famous world-wide, it would give me an interesting look into others that the people in India want to see (like ex-presidents and Bollywood stars). I might pass of the Vortex though.

  5. I adore the Jai Niwas Garden Hotel’s black and white decor; it seems modest and inviting. Bravo to whoever created this wax museum. Some of the well-known people I am familiar with here are Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Mr. Bean, and Michael Jackson. These wax figures are incredibly impressive! I would make sure to visit this museum and any other surrounding attractions whenever I’m in Jaipur.

  6. Thank you for sharing your honest review. It is nice to see familiar/ popular figures included. I think Mr. Bean is great while the Harry Potter one is well attempted. Will take your advise to just use the money to feast to some Rajasthan delicacies.

  7. I have been to a wax museum ones in San Francisco and it was quite fun. I feel like some dolls are always really good and some are less. Like here too. I really like the Mother Teresa and Messi is pretty good too. Looks like you had great time!

That was an interesting read about the wax museum in Jaipur. I am sure, that the museum is a good addition to your sightseeing schedule, especially with kids. Some of the figures, like the Harry Potter, are a bit dissapointing, I guess. But I had this feeling also at Madame Tusseau in London. And what is a 12 D cinema?

  9. Oh cool. I didn’t know that a wax museum is there in Jaipur at all. Caprice roof top bar and restaurant looks cool! The infinity room, mirror maze and 12D cinema are somethings that my daughter would totally love. Abdul Kalam and Sachin Tendulkar are pretty realistic. Salman Khan too. I guess the depiction of foreigner is not that perfect.
