Our first day in Zürich was a perfect start to a dream holiday. Because it surely turned out to be a day that we still look back with fondness. And that night we looked forward again. To a perfect day in Zürich, Switzerland.
The plans for the day was simple. Spending more time at Lake Zürich and the Burkliplatz promenade. Moreover after our last afternoon boat ride on the lake, we wished to be back on water again. Also experience beautiful nature, the Alps and spend more relaxed hours in the chill and the sun. The evening was for exploring the Old Town. All this on a ‘Zürich and Surroundings City Tour’ with Best of Switzerland Tours. Since the weather was just perfect, it made us happy.
A perfect day in Zürich
The tour started from Sihlquai Coach Parking, Limmatstrasse 4 which is a parking lot 200 meters behind Zürich HB Station.

Zürich HB Station.
The journey starts

As we pass by ‘Enge Church’
Bürkliplatz, our first stop
Bürkliplatz is not only a boat dock, but also a marketplace. Moreover it is an art area and event site too with great views across Lake Zürich to the Alps. You can again spend an hour here even if you have spent time taking a boat ride and some relaxed moments in Bürkliplatz Park the previous day. Just like we had done on our First Day in Zürich after arriving from Barcelona.

Bürkliplatz
Visiting Felsenegg
To reach Felsenegg from Bürkliplatz you need to first reach Adliswil in the Sihl Vally. And then take the Adliswil-Felsenegg cable car to the top of Felsenegg Hill. The picturesque journey takes 5 minutes.
If you are using public transport instead of opting for the tour
The shortest route is to take the 8 min ride on tram 5 from Bürkliplatz to Sihlcity Nord. Walk for 5 min to Zürich Saalsporthalle and then take the commuter train S4 for a 10 min ride to reach Adriswil cable car station.

Taking a ferry ride on Lake Zürich
A Ferry ride on Lake Zürich has a completely different feel from a boat ride that we had experienced the previous evening. For this we travel to Meilen from Adliswil.
How do you do that using public transport in case you are not opting for the tour?
From Adliswil, Bahnhof take train S4 to Zürich. Change platform and take S7 to Meilen. Walk to the Ferry terminal.

Next destination- Zürich Old Town

We pass by ‘Schhweizer National Circus’ on our bus

Bürkliplatz
We alighted from our bus near Bürkliplatz and headed towards Old Town for a Walking Tour of this unmissable part of Zürich. We’ll be back soon to share with you our experience of walking around and marveling at the history of the city and beautiful views which were on offer. Till then stay safe, stay happy.

Very interesting …a complete tour guide with picture and words
Thanks Syed. Happy you liked.
Zurich is always such a great vacation destination! The views and greenery are great no in the warm seasons as well as the cold winter months. Old Town Zurich is beautiful.
Yes so true Sophia.
I’ve only spent one day in Zurich also, but I’d love to return and explore it in more detail. It seems like a very welcoming place, clean and civilized. I’m sorry we didn’t have a chance to take a ferry ride on Lake Zürich. The weather wasn’t quite that great when we were there.
Zurich is certainly worth a two day trip to experience the best of the place.
I lived in Zürich for some time and you really picked out the highlights for you day in the city. A cruise on the lake is a must-do on every visit. I did it numerous times with visiting friends.
You are lucky to have stayed in Zurich. The quality of life is certainly one of the best in Europe.
I loved Zurich. I spent most of my time by the lake and walking around it. I visited the city during the autumn and hence it was all very pretty along the way. It is also great to see the snow capped mountains on a clear day.
I would love to visit Switzerland again sometime during the winter months.
I’ve been to Switzerland many times but unfortunately, never sent much time in Zurich. Sounds like I’ve been missing out. The lake looks so scenic. Will have to make sure we stop off and see more next time we go to Switzerland.
Yes Zurich is definitely worth a two days trip.
I haven’t been to Zurich yet, but it’s on my wish list. I find your itinerary very helpful and detailed for trip planning. I would love to visit all the places you described. Lake Zurich seems to be a perfect place for a relax and a chill. I want to make a picnic there. I think the Burkliplatze promenade is worth seeing as well. It’s great to know that it is also a marketplace. Felsenegg cable car seems to be the perfect idea for a trip. The views are fabulous.
Thanks Agnes you found it useful. Old Town is what if you add would make your trip complete.
It looks like you had great weather for your visit to Zurich. Most of the time we were there it was grey and it was hard to get excited. So we did not bother to take the cable car up for those great views from Felsenegg. A boat ride around Lake Zurich is also something for our next visit for sure. All good reasons to go back and hope for great weather.
Yes second time lucky for sure.
Thanks for putting this together. I’m bookmarking it for future use. I feel like it is really a must to take a ferry ride on Lake Zurich and experience Felsenegg.
My pleasure Trisha sharing our experiences.
As always I was engrossed in your storytelling style travel post. Even though I have no intention to visit Switzerland in the near future. It was fun reading about it.
Thanks Saurabh. Happy you liked it.
