Take a virtual break at Delirium, Brussels

It’s time for a break. For all of us around the world. A break nobody wanted like this. But now that we are facing this pandemic, there is not much that we can do as common citizens except thank the tireless efforts of doctors and healthcare workers across the world and all essential services staff who are at the forefront fighting for us and our safety every moment. Pray for them and all those who are suffering and pledge our commitment to do our bit by staying indoors and taking all precautions that we all know well by now. And time to take a family break and do things differently.

Family time

Social distancing is the need of the hour. And with so much of trash floating around on various social media platforms related to the virus, I also decided to take a break from most of them. Hence for me now it’s also Social Media Distancing, music, reading more travel blogs, watching a lot of travel videos on YouTube and getting to see more of this beautiful world through them. Also time to look back at our travel last summer and write a bit about some interesting experiences.

Happiness will be back again. Till then it’s time to look back and rewind with the wonderful moments of our past. Take a break from our worries and concerns. And light a lamp or a candle in our homes to drive away the negativity and darkness that this unwanted virus has brought to our lives.

I have also taken a break from alcohol during this period of lock down. But today being a very hot day with the temperature rising here in our city, I felt like having a chilled beer. So I decided to take this virtual break at Delirium, Brussels. Come along and have a relaxed evening with us.

Delirium Cafe, Brussels, Belgium

Delirium Café is a bar in Brussels known for its long beer list. Located in the heart of the city, the Delirium Cafe is one of the most famous bars in Brussels and is a literal paradise for all the beer lovers. The bar holds one of the largest beer varieties in the world and has also been recorded in The Guinness Book of Records. On offer are beers from over 60 countries with over 2000 varieties, including many Belgian beers.

The bar is located in the small alley called Impasse de la Fidelite / Getrouwheidsgang, only a couple of hundred meters from the Grand Place. The Jeanneke Pis statue is across the street from the entrance. The bar’s name comes from the beer Delirium Tremens, whose pink elephant symbol also decorates the cafe’s entrance.

Delirium is huge with multi levels, including a semi secret outside roof patio. The beer decor throughout creates a fun, casual and retro environment.  The staff can be either super friendly, or robotic, depending on how crowded it is. For beer lovers, this touristy bar is a must visit. Come let’s go in and let me take you around to give you a feel before we settle down.

Delirium Cafe. A must visit while you are in Brussels. Even for teetotalers for the experience, with a soft drink in hand and some cheese snacks to go along.

For now though it’s time to stay home.

  1. I have to agree with you about social media distancing. That includes regular news. I can only take so much negative news. Good thing I got back from South America with a ton of blog posts and photos to work on. The Delirium Cafe with the long list of beer would definitely be something we would visit when we make it to Brussels. Hubby would definitely be trying the chocolate beer! Thanks for the tease. Great to get a view around this place.

  2. I’ve heard many things about Delirium Café! I’ve always wanted d to visit, but I’m more than happy to settle for a virtual tour around it. I agree 100% with you on social distancing, we can’t be too safe and need to do our bit and stay inside.

  3. Thank you for spreading such a responsible message! Just cause we can’t physically travel doesn’t mean we can’t do it virtually. This is such a cool place! I have yet to visit Belgium and my partner would go crazy here! Thanks for sharing.

My husband and I were just talking about beer yesterday! There is a restaurant/brewery about 30-40 minutes away from us that has the most amazing food. They’ve created a special beer to honor one of the bartenders who recently passed from brain cancer. The bartender was a friend of my husband’s. So every time we go, we have a glass for him and then take some home with us too.

What a great idea to stop and reflect on past adventures! This is a great way to be grateful for the travels we’ve had. I just suggested to my husband that tonite we connect the cloud to the big TV and we go through our past travel photos. Decide which ones to save, delete anything bad or duplicated and mostly, talk about what we were thinking and feeling during each of those ventures and different iconic places we stood. I’d also planned to decrease my alcohol during this time, but I think instead, it has increased because I’m exercising so much it feel justified!

For the meantime, no actual barhopping but we can always do it virtually. That’s why travel blogs gains more attention recently, we can share experiences and stories while waiting for this isolation be ended. About the bar, it is very interesting (aside from having its own beer), but those vintage signage and decors, tells a lot of stories.
